Advancing Heat Recovery in Hot Rolling

Advanced 3D heat transfer radiation simulations have been developed by CRM Group to accurately model the infrared heat radiation from industrial hot-rolled steel coils.
These simulations were experimentally validated at lab scale and are now being translated into practice. The results are directly supporting the design of an industrial heat-capturing test rig, equipped with infrared heat-absorbing panels, enabling efficient recovery of high-temperature radiative heat from the hot strip mill coils at 600°C.
This work bridges numerical modelling, experimental validation, and industrial implementation, opening new pathways for waste heat recovery in the steel industry.
🌱 Turning radiant heat into usable energy — one step closer to more sustainable hot rolling.
